Athens is a 200-year-old, brick-streeted college town located in southeastern Ohio and is home to Ohio University which helped make possible the recording of the new birthday song, “Your Trip around the Sun.”

Ohio University, established in 1804, is the oldest university in the Northwest Territory and occupies 1800 acres.

Over the years, Athens and Ohio University have served as (temporary) homes to Pulitzer Prize winner and Chicago Tribune columnist, Clarence Page; ‘Today Show’ Host, Matt Lauer; actress Nancy Cartwright, voice of Bart Simpson; Walter Tevis, novelist and author of The Hustler, The Color of Money, The Man Who Fell to Earth; Paul Newman, actor, philanthropist; Arsenio Hall, comedian, former talk show host; Roger Ailes, President Fox News; and Pete Souza, currently the Chief Official White House Photographer for President Obama, Director of the White House photo office and author of The Rise of Barack Obama.

Architect Maya Lin, who designed the Vietnam Memorial, grew up in Athens where her father was dean of the College of Fine Arts at Ohio University and her mother taught English.

In 1999, the composer of the new birthday song spent a week in Washington videotaping the Vietnam Memorial for a video entitled 58214, the number of names on the memorial.
